Why counselling and hypnotherapy for anxiety?

In times of uncertainty, such as the one we are living now, with the pandemic crisis, our worst fears and insecurities may come to the fore.

If you are suffering from anxiety or anxiety-related symptoms, I can help.

At the root of anxiety, there is fear.

Sometimes, we are afraid of concrete things, such as objects, animals or specific situations.

Sometimes, it is not so clear. We are not even aware of the underlying fear, we just experience the symptoms and the effect that they are having on our quality of life.

Counselling paired with hypnotherapeutic interventions is a very effective form of therapy that can help you to manage your symptoms, helping you to become more effective at handling anxiety-producing situations.

Anxiety Symptoms include:

Have a look at these strategies to start managing your anxiety!

We are often told that we should be "tough", that we should "suck it up and carry on", that "we should  be glad for what we have because other people have it worse", etc.  However well-meaning, these types of popular pieces of advice don't help us to feel better and overcome our challenges. On the contrary, they often make us feel disempowered, helpless and hopeless. If you are struggling, you need to reach out for help.

Anxiety is an umbrella term to describe a number of emotional and physical symptoms that arise as a consequence of fear.

This is not always obvious because fear can take many forms. It is often the case that we are not conscious of it.

Fear may have originated in the past, due to one single incident or to many.

It may be something we remember or something that we have forgotten. It may even be caused by experiences we had when we very young and unable to process them at a conscious level. Fear may have left its mark when we were in the womb, or even before this present life time.

As the autonomic nervous system's main job is to keep us alive, whatever experience we have had that has signalled a potential threat to our survival may have left an imprint in our bodies and every time we experience something similar, or something that our brain interprets as a threat (i.e. be it spiritual, emotional or physical), we find ourselves experiencing the symptoms that alerts us to a threat in our environment, thus we get "anxious."

It may also be that you have learnt to practise meditation, yoga, deep breathing, etc. but the anxiety is still triggered. Then, it is possible that the cause of the anxiety has not still been resolved and lies at deeper levels of your unconscious.

The kind of therapy I offer is holistic. I use a number of methods and techniques, as well as approaches to psychotherapy. I also work as a healer and I am able to work with you at an energetic level to see if there is something else that is causing the problem.

We work with your spirit, your emotions, your mind, your body and your environment to make sure we leave no stone unturned.

If you find that this way of working may be interesting for you to try, please do get in touch by sending me an e-mail or completing a form. I always aim to respond within 48 hours.

If you decide to work with me, we will work in a partnership so that you:

  • Feel deeply supported and encouraged throughout the process of exploration.

  • Gain the confidence to access the mental structures that will enable you to break the cycle of self-sabotage and unhelpful patterns of thought and behaviour.

  • Re-connect with your body in a way that will allow you to access the truth at the root of your emotions.

  • Become clear with valuable insights into the roots of your anxiety.

  • Use the information gained by those insights to re-structure your thought-process so that you can choose alternative ways of thinking and behaving.

  • Learn new ways of relating to yourself, to others and to life.

  • Gain the communication skills that will enable you to become present in relationship with others.

  • Recover a sense of purpose and clarity to get "unstuck" and become the captain of your life.
